5 Steps to SEO for Entrepreneurs (not as easy as you think)

SEO for entrepreneurs is not as easy as it might sound. When you begin to search engine optmize, one of the key first steps is finding words that are relevant to your message that also have searches attached.

I ran into this issue with my first book “Prospect When You Are Happy: Move the Law of Attraction into Action.” I wrote the book but didn’t look at keywords or optimize for searches. The publisher categorized only as “business,” and my book was like a fish climbing a tree in that category. Yes, it was an inspirational, spiritual book related to business but the key focus was not business. So there was no search engine optimization!

When I started my second book, I went the opposite direction. I chose a phrase with over 100K monthly searches. Happiness Quotations. I built my book around that term, and I wrote daily original happiness quotations. This led to more than 60,000 fans on Facebook and testimonials from Jack Canfield and Marci Shimoff (two of the more known names in self help).

So, when you are looking at building a blog post or a book or a course or a coaching practice, or selling a product, here are five steps you can take so you don’t make my same mistakes.

#1: Clarity of Audience – This is always relevant. Who will be your audience? Is it men ages 18 to 30? Women ages 35 to 95? Tweens? Black women with a high degree of consciousness? It’s alright, whatever your audience is, just get to know that.

#2: Speak to the Audience – Discover their pain points but take it a step further. What do they type in when they are solving a problem? Like “how do I get SEO if I am an entrepreneur” for example, would be a good question to type in if you wanted to read this blog post. You can go to AnswerthePublic.com for more inspiration on questions your audience might be asking.

#3: Don’t be afraid to Repeat – Since search engines are machines, they are uniquely unqualified to discern what makes for great search engine optimization. Yes, Google is going .ai and seeks to be human-like. But so far, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So, squeak about your product or service, repeating as much as you can without getting too dense with your keywords. Paraphrase. Keep answering the questions your audience needs answered.

#4: Define your brand or your product with enthusiasm. Everybody likes enthusiasm. It never gets old.

#5: SEO for Entrepreneurs means taking something that is popular, and showing neural pathways between that thing and your product. It’s kind of “if you like that, you might like this.” I find most people are not patient enough to discover the like things that will work for their audiences. It’s like “my thing is the only thing.” And, while it’s true that you need to believe in your product or service (see #4), it’s also true that you can make pathways between other like things and yours. This is the icing on the cake. BTW some people call this backlinks.
